1) If you're not registered, do it TODAY — several states close registration a month early;
2) If you are registered, check to make sure you're still on the voter rolls — it literally only takes a minute (some GOP-controlled states are throwing legal voters off the rolls, hoping it won't be noticed and fixed in time, so don't wait);
3) If possible, clear your calendar for November 3 now, so you will have the time you need to go to the polls.

Rung 3 · 2 minutesThe closest races in the country, by office, rated by nonpartisan handicappers. The races for whatever state you pick are pulled to the top. Helpful to remember that contributions for a "toss-up" or "lean" race are the most effective way to spend your money.

It's a fair question. What difference can one person make in a world that seems broken? It's impossible to sugarcoat this, there's no easy answer. No rah-rah "we're all in this together" BS that will suddenly make groceries, rent or health care more affordable or protect a single right.
Whichever way November goes, the next few years are going to be rough.
But "rough" is not an either/or.
How rough it will be — and for whom — is what's actually on the ballot.
Voting doesn't ask you to believe any of this gets fixed in an instant. It asks something smaller but profound:
Between the versions of the next few years on the table, which would you choose? One where you fought? Or one where you surrendered? Because this is the hard truth: Staying home doesn't register as disgust — nobody counts the disgusted. It just hands your share of the decision to the people who have no doubts at all.
Don't cede your share to them. And who knows? We just might pull it off.
